Donny Bradfield (b. 1992, St. Louis) better known as Shabez Jamal, is an interdisciplinary artist based in St. Louis Missouri. His work, rooted in still photography and video, uses Queerness, not as a means of speaking about sexuality but as a catalyst to challenging varying power relations that can never be separated out in relation to gender, sexuality, race, ethnicity, or class. Those featured in his work are made up of a cast of friends and muses who are founded in ongoing relationships mediated by the making and production of imagery. Obtaining his BFA in Photography from the University of Missouri - St. Louis in 2019, Jamal has exhibited his work extensively throughout the St. Louis region with residencies at Paul ArtSpace (St. Louis, MO, 2018) and Old 77 Hotel (New Orleans, LA 2019).
